Heroic Families River Trip

Who: The BOEC extends a special invitation exclusively to military veterans and their families. This river trip is designed to accommodate veterans who have sustained a moderate to significant injury. Injuries may include but are not limited to brain injuries, PTSD, and/or amputees. Due to the social aspect of outdoor adventures and camping, participants must be ready to enjoy the company of other people.
What: A classic western river trip. A two-part trip, the first part involves floating down Ruby and Horsethief Canyons of the Colorado River in canoes, inflatable kayaks, and paddleboards.
Where: The Colorado River in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. The Colorado river cuts through beautiful canyon country and offers a mild to whitewater experience. A digital detox is ideal for this trip, given the remoteness of the area, there is no cell phone service.
Why: A multi-day river trip provides an ideal environment for reconnecting, learning new skills, strengthening bonds, enjoying each other’s company, and unwinding. It’s an opportunity to escape the usual routines and distractions of daily life, allowing participants to gain a fresh perspective on their relationships and rediscover their resilience as they navigate the stunning canyons of the Colorado River. This adventure not only offers access to a breathtaking wilderness but also accommodates veterans with mobility restrictions, ensuring inclusivity. Family members are encouraged to join, as they too play an integral role in the healing journey.
